An Introduction To The Accordion And Buyers Guide

Accordions are very complex and amazing instruments and are very popular in Atlantic Canada, Many European countries, Mexico/Texas area and many areas. There are many types and brands of accordions. First of all the types there are Diatonic Button (1,2,3 rows available ), there is chromatic button which is available in many styles (ex: 120 bass, 60 bass, etc.), there is also the piano accordion which is chromatic and has more manufacturers than any other accordion type. The piano accordion is probably the most common accordion ever made. They are very complex but fairly easy to learn how to play but will take lots of effort and commitment. The 3 best accordion brands are Hohner, Weltmiester and Paolo Soprani. The common price range of new accordions range from $500-$5000
and it depends on the model and brand of accordion it is. The common price range for a good used accordion ranges from $400-$1000 if it is lower it might need some TLC (TENDER LOVING CARE) like a re-wax or restoration or some sort of costly repair job, I have personal experience with this. I recently bought an accordion for $180 which was suppose to be $225 but I got it cheaper because it needed a re-wax and a tuning never trust cheap accordion you can check them out but test them out for possible red flags. If they wont allow a test don't even decide to buy it, they are probably hiding something that they know is wrong, here are some things to look for: buzzing reeds, which means the accordion needs a re-wax which could cost $150-$500 depending on the accordion type, also avoid an accordion with any sounds that don't sound right to you, for example if the accordion makes air noises while playing there is a serious air leak in it. Just remember that if you hear or see something that alarms you don't buy it and always try before you buy! Happy Playing!
